The company

A distinguished, successful and renowned community theatre musical society — staging musicals continually since 1979.

Sydney Youth Musical Theatre company (SYMT), founded by Jan Thomas OAM in 1979, presents two productions each year, for young people between the ages of 10 and 25.

We are very proud to have seen many of our past performers and production teams go on to study at NIDA, WAAPA & VCA, and to be recipients of annual Helpmann & Rob Guest Foundation Awards. We proudly have past cast and crew in professional shows such as Matilda, Hamilton, The Dismissal, School of Rock, Beauty and the Beast, Miss Saigon and Jesus Christ Superstar, among others staged across Australia and overseas.

Our mission

To give young people the opportunity to explore and develop their own individual skills in musical theatre and to achieve their highest personal standard of excellence — while developing a personal appreciation of the value of teamwork and personal friendships in a safe, positive and happy environment.

Where to find us

Our productions are staged at venues across Sydney's north, including Hornsby RSL and Glen Street Theatre, Belrose. We conduct our rehearsals at the Valley Scout Hall, Castle Hill Road — across from Thompsons Corner shopping village, West Pennant Hills.
