Sydney Youth Musical Theatre company (SYMT), founded by Jan Thomas OAM in 1979, is a distinguished, successful and renowned community theatre musical society.  We have been staging musicals continually for 45 years. We present two productions each year, for young people between the ages of 10 and 25. Over the last 2 years, we have successfully staged The Little Mermaid in September 2023, School of Rock in April 2024.  We are now in the production phase of staging Billy Elliot and expect to attract large audiences over 4000. Billy Elliot will be SYMT’s 96th show. 

 

We are also very proud to have seen many of our past performers and production teams subsequently go on to study at NIDA, WAAPA & VCA, and been the recipients of annual Helpmann & Rob Guest Foundation Awards. We proudly have past cast and crew in the professional shows such as "Matilda", “Hamilton”, “The Dismissal”, “School of Rock” “and “Beauty and the Beast”, “Miss Saigon” and currently “Jesus Christ Superstar” amongst others.
